Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Akyol Appointed as General Manager of Teknopark Istanbul 15 October 2024

Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Akyol was appointed as the General Manager of Teknopark Istanbul, Turkey's deep technology hub, effective October 7, 2024. He succeeded M. Fatih Özsoy in this role.

Teknopark Istanbul, established in partnership between the Presidency of Defense Industries of the Republic of Turkey and the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, announced this significant senior-level appointment. Previously, Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Akyol served as the Director of ASELSAN Academy.

Teknopark Istanbul hosts domestic and international companies focusing on diverse fields such as defense industry, cybersecurity, energy, artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology. The hub continues to grow with its 483 R&D companies, 10,305 R&D engineers, and 3,680 national projects.

Born in 1977, Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Akyol completed his undergraduate studies in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Cumhuriyet University.

Over more than 20 years, he has conducted academic research at Gebze Technical University (GTU), where he held various administrative roles between 2014 and 2022. These roles include General Secretary, Member of the University Executive Board, Member of the Senate, Member of the Faculty Board, TTO (Technology Transfer Office) Coordinator, TTO Board Member, and General Manager.

Akyol is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Gebze Technical Education and Research Foundation, where he served as a Board Member and Director of the Economic Enterprise.

Prof. Dr. Akyol has published numerous articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals, with his work cited over 1,500 times.

In 2023, he began his role as the Director of ASELSAN Academy and also serves as a Board Member at TR Education, an ASELSAN subsidiary.

Since 2019, he has been involved as a mentor and reviewer for the KADEM Association's "Women in Innovation" project.

Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Akyol is married and the father of two children.
